Monotone bells

from Sing Song by Edith

/

about

Written in São Paulo, the first time I spent some weeks in this never resting town.

lyrics

Mr. Summerfield
Don’t you hear them?
Monotone bells are waking me up

Traffic noise does not have an end
Pulsing town
Some people laugh, some cry

And the horns go on and on
And smoke gets in my eyes
Fever in continuum

Lights do not turn off
Till the morning brakes in
And the town gets louder and faster

People go to work
Or lay down
Under the bridges or along the streets

Beauties on the wall
Painted with waste gas
The fair man sells salads and fruits
